This exciting home was a rebuild after the Chch earthquakes. The owners had a low-lying site near a river so once again we had to employ design ideas to elevate the living space and future proof against potential flooding. What better theme to use than a MaiMai!
The house is actually a collection of 3 living spaces. These accommodate the trappings of multi-generational living and are joined together by a large in-situ concrete wall. This was a massive feat of engineering where commercial formwork was required. Signature mild green tint glass sets off the cedar and river stone cladding. Inside bespoke mortise and tenon trusses compliment cedar sarking. The kitchen has a fully glazed panel behind the sink unit and hunting safe style mesh over the cupboards. A stylised, relaxed and private home.
The kitchen was designed by Trish Simpson.
